And so begins Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon. This post may have already been published, but I guarantee I haven’t even gotten out of bed yet. Three cheers for scheduling posts ahead of time!

I wasn’t expecting to participate, but sj decided to join and convinced me to join, too. There was a whole ton of tiny bit of arm twisting involved, but it’s been a while since I’ve participated so I’m looking forward to it.

Because I signed up at the last minute, I don’t have a set list of books I’ll be reading. I know I’ll be reading some Lolita (Nabokov) for our Insatiable Booksluts group read, and I’ll be finishing The Sandman (Gaiman) comics for Morpheus Mondays. sj and I’ll be reading the Sex Criminals comics and some Jasper Fforde together, along with whatever else we decide on as together-reads.

This will serve as my main post for the readathon and I’ll be updating my progress every three hours. I probably won’t be doing any of the mini-challenges because I find that I end up spending too much time on them when I’d rather be reading. Can’t wait to see what others come up with for them, though!

I’ll not likely be participating for the entire 24 hours, either–my body starts shutting down and making me feel like absolute crap if I stay up much past 1am, but I might get some more reading done tomorrow morning…

…oh, who am I kidding? Getting up early on a Sunday when I can sleep in until 10am? Not gonna happen. Hahaha!

Good luck to everyone who’s readathon-ing today, and remember: it’s all about having fun. So happy reading!

(Grand totals are at the very bottom.)

8am – 11am:

# of pages read:  Nada.
# of books finished:  Nope.

I didn’t even get out of bed until after 9am, and I didn’t get in the shower until after 10am. I did do some reading (I went through my RSS reader and read everyone’s readathon posts and stuff), but I didn’t start reading any books yet. I’m starting now, though!

11am – 2pm:

# of pages read:  122
# of books finished:  1

  • The Sandman, Vol. 9 – Neil Gaiman

Currently reading: Sex Criminals, Vol. 1 – Matt Fraction

Got much more reading done between 11 and 2. Also had to eat lunch, make lunch for Ash, and do some laundry. I read some of Lolita, finished The Sandman Vol. 9, and started Sex Criminals Vol. 1. Planning to finish Sex Criminals and start the first book of Fforde’s Dragonslayer series in the next three hours.

2pm – 5pm:

# of pages read:  157
# of books finished:  1

  • Sex Criminals, Vol.1 – Matt Fraction

Currently reading: The Last Dragonslayer – Jasper Fforde

This block went a bit better, although my father decided to Facetime me and I couldn’t exactly tell him that I couldn’t talk (I didn’t want to tell him that, either). It was a nice conversation. Always is, with him. Then I had to fold some laundry and start dinner. I’ll be eating for part of the next time block, but then back to reading.

Sex Criminals is hilarious–if you’re a comic book reader, I recommend it. I’ll have a review up sometime next week.

5pm – 8pm:

# of pages read:  78
# of books finished:  0

Currently reading: The Last Dragonslayer – Jasper Fforde

This block didn’t go too well, did it? Lots of little interruptions here and there. Nightly routine things to do.

I’m enjoying The Last Dragonslayer very much. Love Jenny Strange. Love the Quarkbeast. Actually, there isn’t a character I don’t like at this point.

8pm – 11pm:

# of pages read: 40
# of books finished: 0

Still reading The Last Dragonslayer and loving it.

I read 40 pages between 8 and 9pm, then stopped for a bit to watch a couple episodes of Supernatural with Eric.

Tonight is movie night with the crew on Twitter (headed up by sj [@popqueenie]), so now we’re watching Ghostbusters. Heh. I don’t really want to put TLD down, so I’m attempting to watch, tweet, and read. Not sure how well that’s gonna go.

11pm – 2am:

# of pages read: 111
# of books finished: 0

Almost done with The Last Dragonslayer. I’m going to bed now, but I’ll be reading until I fall asleep. I expect to finish TLD before that happens. We’ll see.

I won’t be up before 8am, but I’ll be writing a readathon wrap-up post tomorrow when I get up and around.

Hope everyone had a great readathon!

Good luck with your reading today!! I’m curious what Jasper Fforde you will be reading.

    • Heather

We’re going to start reading the Dragonslayer series. sj has already read the first two so she’s rereading, but it’ll be my first time. 🙂

      • Tif

LOVE the dragonslayer series, and I’ve only read the first one so far!

  • sj

    I’m so excited we’re readathoning together! <3

    • Heather

      Me, too!

  • Beth

Good luck with your readathon-ing! I’m not officially participating this time around, but I’ve been reading today nonetheless (as you do). Enjoy–

    • Heather

      Thanks, Beth!

  • Hope your second block is going well! I’m having issues balancing books and blogs/Twitter myself, I seem to be about 50/50 so far.

    • Heather

Yeah, that’s the issue I end up having, too, if I keep track of what’s going on online. I’m just going to check Twitter and blogs in between my time blocks, I think.

  • I still need to read Sandman series, and I adore Neil Gaiman’s books. Happy reading!

    • Heather

The Sandman is fantastic. You’ll love it. Thanks!

  • Didn’t you love Sex Criminals?? I’m not a comic reader by any means, and I loved it! Sounds like you’re doing good – keep it up 🙂

    • Heather

I did love it! I can’t wait to read more of them. Thanks, Rachel!

  • Well done so far! Great idea to read the books you’ve got a discussion on.

  • sj

YAY, GO HEATHER, YOU’RE KICKING ASS! [ahem]

Glad I was right about you loving Sex Criminals. 😛

    • Heather

      AND TAKING NAMES.

I don’t feel like I’m kicking ass. People won’t stop interrupting me.

Of course you were right. You haven’t been wrong yet.

      • sj

Oh, I know. While I look at my progress and realize that 500+ pages is actually stellar, I feel like I’m limping along.

        • Heather

          Heh. 500+. And I’ve only read 300+.

          • sj

Not my fault you chose to read dense stuff instead of fluffy mindless reads. 😉

          • Heather

I’M READING WHAT YOU’RE READING aside from BSC. Lolita doesn’t count–I only had nine pages of that to read and I blew through it. Sheesh.

  • Ha, I love Ghostbusters! I’m impressed with your reading/tweeting/watching skills. Good luck with your reading!

    • Thank you, C.J. The reading while watching didn’t go too well–I read maybe 11 pages. Haha! It was worth a shot, though.
