It’s baaaaaack…

Hello!

The blog has officially been transferred to WordPress.org and everyone who has subscribed to Between the Covers through WordPress or through the email option has been transferred with it.

NOTE from the WordPress.com Happiness Engineer who transferred the subscriptions: Any WordPress.com followers who opted to receive email updates will need to re-subscribe through the Jetpack signup box, otherwise they’ll only see new posts in their Reader. Non-WordPress.com email subscribers will continue to get email updates.

So WordPress.com followers, if you were receiving email updates for new posts, you’ll need to sign up for email updates again through the email option at the top of my sidebar. (I assume that’s what she means.)

I can’t say that everything went smoothly–there were a couple small hiccups along the way–but the support team at HostGator (where my domain is being hosted) is fantastic and helpful. They responded promptly to the couple of issues I had and got everything squared away. The whole process was relatively painless and stress-free.

The blog is still a work in progress, I think, but it’s good enough to go public with. The header is new (I took the background photo myself!), and obviously the theme is quite different from my old one. I’m new to WordPress.org, so I’m open to suggestions. I’m also open to any design suggestions in general.

Have a great week, everyone!

    • Heather

      Thanks! 😀

  • Boo JetPack – I’ve never liked JetPack. It requires WAYYYYYY to much effort – four different fields including the comment vs ONE! Bah. (But the site looks great.)

Wait, what? When I look at it (logged out), I only see required fields for Name and Email. What are the other two fields you’re seeing?!

  • Congrats lady, lookin’ gooood!

  • Looks great!! Congrats!

    • Heather

      Thank you!

  • Fabulous! BTW, you can email the WordPress people and they will fix the subscribe via email thing for you, if I’m not mistaken!

    • Heather

They already moved everything they could. It’s just that one thing that people have to redo manually. I didn’t lose any subscribers, those people just need to update their email option.

  • I’m glad the move went (mostly) smoothly! I’m going to switch to self-hosting, myself, in the next few months, so I’m glad to hear it was relatively painless! I didn’t know that you could keep your followers when you move to different hosting, though; I thought with wordpress.org, wordpress is just the content management system that you use to post things. I’m excited to see otherwise, since my biggest fear about moving to self-hosting has been losing followers!

    • Heather

Yep! When you’re all done switching and you have the blog set up, you can just post a thread in the WordPress.com support forum and ask them to move your followers over. All the documentation is in their Help stuff.

  • Oh, and here you are! 🙂 Looks great. Congrats on your new blog.

      Thank you, CJ!
