One Resolution for 2011

January 11, 2011

Blogs, Random

When I started my blog, I had many big ideas about what I wanted it to be.  I was pretty hyped about it.

Then I neglected it.

I don’t usually make New Year’s resolutions, because I believe in doing my best to be my best every day, but I am going to make one resolution this year:  I am going to use my blog like I intended it to be used.

For Christmas, I was given the book 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die by one of my kids.  I went through the entire thing on Christmas day, and marked all of the books I have read, should reread, or currently own and are waiting to be read.  89.  That’s it.  Out of 1001 books, I have read/should reread/own 89.  I have a lot of reading cut out for me.  Oh boy.

My 10-year-old daughter and I have already set up spreadsheets to keep track of our reading for the coming year.  I kept track of my reading for 2010, and as of today, I have read 89 books, for a total of 32,701 pages.  I was going for 100 books read, but I am pretty darned happy with 89.  And no, these 89 books do not directly correspond to the 89 I have read out of the 1001 must-reads.  That is merely a coincidence.

So, in the coming years, I will be choosing more books from 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die for my TBR pile.  I resolve to use this blog to give my opinions about these books (and others), and whether or not I could have died happily without reading them.

So here’s to the new year, and keeping the one New Year’s resolution I have ever made…

Good stuff. Looking forward to reading your reviews and seeing you progress through that massive list. Hopefully I’ll be inspired to read more because of it.

You know, I’ve been wanting this book for a couple of years now and after reading your post, I said, “the hell with it!” and went and ordered it on Amazon. Did you get the 2010 version? I bought the 2006 version because I could get it cheaper used. I heard there is not much difference in the two editions anyway. Did you know there is a group on Goodreads designed around this book? I’ve been a member for a while now. We’re getting ready to read The Monk by Matthew Lewis on January 15th. I haven’t joined in on every book because of time, but it’s a pretty cool group. I think there’s a reading challenge that someone is hosting as well.

    Great job on the blog!
